Faith is the principal virtue and who does not believe is similar to those Jews who rebelled against Moses in the desert. Without faith no one can enter the kingdom of God, it is the life of the soul. The Christian is one who, with the eye of the heart, enlightened by faith, understands the mysteries of God and makes public profession.
The true faith is accompanied by charity. Believing in God for the Christian, not so much believe that God exists and even believe that He is trustworthy, is to believe in love, abandoning believe in God, joining and conforming to Him”.

(Saint Anthony of Padua)

Saint Anthony as Francis was fascinated by war-time life and attracted by the easy life that was permitted by the social position of his family. The young Anthony, as it was for Francis, came the call of God Young received this call and immediately turned into the path that led him to follow Jesus Christ.

He left the palace of the family to get rich first Abbey of St. Vincent at the Canons Regular of St. Augustine and then in another in Coimbra. In this monastery drew on religious education, a deep knowledge of Scripture. After completing school, he was ordained priest at age twenty.

When he was in the city of Rimini, Anthony tried to convert an heretic and the dispute had centered around the sacrament of the Eucharist which is the real presence of Jesus. The heretic named Bonville, launches a challenge to Anthony saying: If you, Anthony, can you try a miracle that the Communion of believers is, however veiled, the true body of Christ, I renounced all heresy, my head will submit without delay to the Catholic faith.
Anthony accepts the challenge because he was convinced by the Lord to get everything for the conversion of the heretic. Then Bonfillo, calling with his hand to silence him: I’ll keep my donkey closed for three days deprived of food. The past three days, I’ll pull out the presence of people, show him the corn ready. Meanwhile you’ll be in contrast with what claims to be the body of Christ. If the animal while hungry will refuse the corn and worship your God, I sincerely believe the Church’s faith. Anthony prayed and fasted for all three days. On the appointed day and the square filled with people all waiting to see how it ends. Anthony celebrated Mass in front of large crowd and then with great reverence leads the Lord’s body in front of hungry mare that had been brought into the square. Simultaneously Bonfillo showed him the oats.
Anthony imposed silence and ordered the animal: By virtue and in the name of the Creator, that I, unworthy as it is, I hold in my hands, I say, I order you to get close to animals and promptly with pay due reverence and humility so the wicked heretics clearly learn from this gesture that every creature is subject to its Creator. The mare refused fodder, and bowing her head down to the hocks, went to genuflect before the Sacrament of the Body of Christ in adoration. Seeing the incident, including all present and heretics Bonville knelt adoring. Read more…

Corpus Domini

“I am the living bread from heaven. If anyone eats this bread will live forever, and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” (Jn 6.49).

Human intelligence is hard to believe that the bread and wine can be transformed into real flesh and real blood of Jesus, for in the act of consecration is nothing visible under the eyes of humans, while faith leads to firmly believe in the words of Jesus.

Eucharistic Miracles confirm precisely the words of Jesus and, in fact, strengthen the faith and demonstrate the real presence of the Body and Blood of the Lord in the Eucharistic bread.

These facts prodigious challenge our rationality that finds it hard to surrender to the supernatural, but to God nothing is impossible nor that “In the bread to be concealed from the humanity of Jesus.”

Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano, 700 d.C.

Ancient Anxanum the Frentani keep for over twelve centuries the first and greatest Eucharistic Miracle of the Catholic Church.
This miracle happened in seconds. VIII d. C., in the little church of San Legonziano, for the doubt of a Monaco basilica in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. During the celebration of Holy Mass, without the double consecration, the host became live Flesh and wine changed into live Blood, clotted blood cells into five irregular and different shapes and sizes.

The Host-Flesh, as now it looks very good, has great size of the host currently in use in the Latin Church, is slightly brown and goes all rosy when viewed through.

Blood is coagulated, ashen color, to yellow-ocher. The meat, from 1713, is preserved in a silver monstrance artistic, finely chiselled, the Neapolitan school. Blood is contained in a phial of rich and ancient rock crystal.

The Friars Minor Conventual keeps the miracle since 1252, at the behest of the bishop of Chieti, Landulfo, and with papal bull of 12.5.1252.
Previously it had succeeded the Basilian monks until 1176 and the Benedictines until 1252.

In 1258 the Franciscans built the current sanctuary, which, in 700, underwent the transformation from Romanesque – Gothic baroque.

The “Miracle” was first placed in a chapel beside the high altar, then, from 1636, in a side altar of the nave, which retains its old case and the wrought iron memorial inscription.

Since 1902 the “miracle” is kept in the second tabernacle altar monument, built by Lanciano, in the middle of the chancel.

At various reconnaissance Church, conducted since 1574, followed in 1970-1971 and taken over in 1981, the scientific one, accomplished by Professor Edward Linoli, Lecturer in Anatomy and Pathological Histology and in Chemistry and Clinical Microscopy, assisted by Prof. Ruggero Bertelli University of Siena. The analysis, carried out with absolute scientific rigor and documented by a series of photographs under the microscope, gave these results: The Flesh is real Flesh. Blood is real Blood. Flesh and Blood belong to the human species. Flesh is a “HEART” complete in its essential structure. In the flesh are present, in section, the myocardium, the endocardium, the vagus nerve, and for the significant thickness of the myocardium, the left heart ventricle. Flesh and Blood have the same blood type: AB.

Blood proteins have been found normally divided by the relative percentages which are under serum proteins in normal fresh blood. Blood was also found minerals: Chloride, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium and Calcium.

The preservation of the Flesh and Blood miraculous left in their natural state for twelve centuries and an exposed to physical agent, atmospheric and biological agents, remains an extraordinary phenomenon.

In conclusion it can be said that Science, summoned, gave a definite answer and thorough about the authenticity of the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano.

Saint Joseph – March 19th

“Whatever grace you demand to Saint Joseph it will certainly be granted, who wishes to believe be persuaded to face the test.”
St. Teresa of Avila.

st20joseph20and20jesusThe life of Saint Joseph has been truly overthrown by mysterious initiatives of God, initiatives beyond any possibility to understand.
Saint Joseph let himself to be driven lead because he was just and “just” is the man who lives of faith.

Where will the Lord drive him? He does not know it, God does not tell him, He does not explain him anything and he still obeys. It always said yes with his life, not with his words. It had never questions nor doubts.

And how fecund this silence is! It allows that between the word of God and the obedience of Saint Joseph there is not solution of continuity. God says and Saint Joseph does.
“Do not be afraid…”, and he does not fear, all troubles end.
“Stand up…”, and he stands up, there he is already on the road.
“Come back…”, and he is already coming back.
This immediacy of Saint Joseph at any nod of the Lord shows his beautiful inner disposition!

This example of Saint Joseph is wonderful: although he is the head of the house, he is simply in service with a familiarity made of abandonment and of continuous dedication. Saint Joseph does not estimate the life of Jesus and of the Virgin according to his requirements, but he puts his life at disposal of theirs. He does not leave the Egypt when it is suitable to him, but when the interest of Jesus requires.

His patronage is not less or more triumphal, but it is something deeper coming from a lower reality. Saint Joseph makes us to understand the content of the service for the Reign and helps us to be in the history of the salvation those people who believe in Christ, obey Christ and trust Him.

Saint Joseph allowed the Lord to sweep up and to lead himself on mysterious ways. He gave up understanding and accepted to believe; he gave up to command and accepted to obey.
Nevertheless, believing, he let himself be driven by the Gentleman and He introduced him very intimately in the mystery of the Incarnation and the salvation.

Shall Saint Joseph, this most beloved patron of the spiritual life, help us to be very present only to the heart and the eyes of God, and it will be much better if much more people forget us, so that in disappearing at people’s and even our sight, our ego can get lost in the humble and silent adoration of the infinite greatness of the only God and our Lord.
“These are the reasons why men of every rank and country should fly to the trust and guard of the blessed Joseph. Fathers of families find in Joseph the best personification of paternal solicitude and vigilance; spouses a perfect example of love, of peace, and of conjugal fidelity; virgins at the same time find in him the model and protector of virginal integrity. The noble of birth will earn of Joseph how to guard their dignity even in misfortune; the rich will understand, by his lessons, what are the goods most to be desired and won at the price of their labour.” (Leon XIII)
